The Tiger Women's Soccer team finished up their trip away from San Antonio and played their first game on Paul McGinlay Field in 2023. The Tigers took a loss to Cal Lutheran and then earned a hard fought win against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The Tigers took a hard loss to Cal Luthern on Friday, where the two teams were at a 0-0 stalemate with less than a minute to go in the match. The Royals ended up scoring two goals in the last minute to put the Tigers away.

The Tigers took that loss to heart, coming out with tons of energy. The Tigers came out firing, scoring the first and only goal of the match in the 14th minute.
Emily Hayes (Allen, Texas / Allen) scored, notching her first goal of the season off the
Kyra Stafford (Albuquerque, New Mexico / Hope Christian) assist. Goalkeeper
Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, Texas / Creekview) also got her first shutout of the season. Senior
Josephine McCray (Fairway, Kansas / Shawnee Mission East) was pivotal to the Tiger win. McCray was all over the field, disrupting the offense strategy of the Athenas every chance she got.Â

Player of the Week - Ilsa Newland

Sophomore defender
Ilsa Newland (St. Louis, Missouri / Kirkwood) was named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career, and the first Tiger to earn the award in 2023.Â

Newland is crucial to the Tiger back line, helping lead the Tigers to limit opponents to just five goals on the year and 16 shots on target.Â

Weekend Preview: On The Road Again

The Tigers get back on the road after their short one game home match against Hardin-Simmons University on Friday, September 15th and then they travel to Richardson to face off against University of Texas-Dallas on Sunday, September 17th.

On the Hardin-Simmons University Cowgirls: The Cowgirls hold a 4-0 record in 2023. The Cowgirls play tough defense, having shutouts in 3 of their 4 matches to begin the year. The Tigers are 9-6-2 against the Cowgirls since 2009, taking the last five meetings, including a 2-1 win in the 2022 season. The Tigers will be looking to stop Gabby Aviles and Lexi Templin, who have 7 of the 18 Cowgirl goals.Â

On the University of Texas-Dallas Comets: The Comets bring in a 4-0 record. The Comets have outscored their opponents 11-0Â in their four matches, not allowing a single goal this season. The Tigers hold a 9-0 record against the Comets since 2009, only allowing 2 goals in their matches while scoring 29. The Tigers will be looking to stop top goal scorer Kate Crowe and break through against the Comet backline and goalkeeper.
