The Tiger Women's Soccer wrapped up some long road trips this weekend. The Tigers took a 3-3 tie with Hardin-Simmons and a 1-0 loss against University of Texas-Dallas.
The Tigers tied a high scoring game against Hardin-Simmons on Friday. The Tigers took an early 3-0 lead, but the Cowgirls stormed back in the second half to score a game tying goal in the 86th minute. The Tigers suffered another tough loss to the Comets of University of Texas-Dallas on Sunday when the Comets found the back of the net with less than two minutes left in the match, which would ultimately be the deciding factor.
There were many bright spots, however. Junior forward
Abby Schneider (Albuquerque, New Mexico / Bosque School), junior midfielder
Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford) and senior midfielder
Emily Hayes (Allen, Texas / Allen) all found the back of the net. Bosco, Hayes,
Bailey Meyer (Southlake, Texas / Carroll), and
Dabney Moore (Nashville, Tennessee / University School of Nashville) all collected assists along the way.
Weekend Preview: Home, Sweet Home
The Tigers get back to Paul McGinlay field for only the second time in the young season. However, the Tigers will make themselves cozy at home for the next few games. They open up the homestand with a match against Concordia University (TX) on Wednesday, September 20th at 7:00 PM and then take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Monday at 7:00 PM.
On the Concordia University Tornadoes: The Tornadoes have struggled thus far, bringing in an 0-3-2 record in the young season. The Tornadoes have dropped matches against Tyler Junior College, Cal Lutheran, and University of Houston-Victoria. The Tiger back line will be looking to stop Kallie Krenz and Erin Folkner, who are the lone goal scorers for the Tornadoes. This will be the third meeting between the Tigers and the Tornadoes, with the Tigers holding a 2-0 advantage.
On the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders: The Crusaders hold a 4-0 record in the 2023 season thus far. The Crusaders have only allowed one goal on the season, and that was the SCAC rival Southwestern. Other than that, they have shut out their three other opponents and have only allowed five shots on goal, putting them at 16th nationally. The Tigers will look to break into that back line of defense and score on goalkeepers Ainsley Westlake and Reagan Williams.
Looking Ahead: Home Again, Home Again, Jiggety-Jig
The Tigers get to play another set of back-to-back home games for the second time in the 2023 season. The Tigers will start off with the Bulldogs of Texas Lutheran on Sunday, October 1st. Then, the Tigers open up their SCAC Championship defense against the University of Dallas Crusaders on Friday, October 6th.
