SUWANEE, Ga. – Junior
Azariah Anderson (St. Charles, Mo. / Francis Howell North) of the Trinity University track & field team has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Character & Community Male Student-Athlete of the Week.
Anderson qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships last season, finishing ninth in the men's 110-meter hurdles and missing a spot in the finals by just 0.02 seconds. His season-best time of 14.19 seconds was the second-fastest in school history.
In addition to his excellence on the track, Anderson is also extremely active in the community both on campus and in the San Antonio area. He is the President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a member of the Black Student Union. Anderson serves as an advisor for
Breaking Down Walls, which is a non-profit organization established by former NFL player Lenny Walls that "provides learning opportunities and mentorship to San Antonio youth." Anderson has also worked with Meals on Wheels to deliver meals on the south side of San Antonio and is also an active volunteer with the Trinity University Volunteer Action Community.
Anderson is also a writer for the
Trinity Review – a literary magazine about Trinity University that publishes art, photography, and stories created by Trinity students. His published book,
AZRH VOL 1, is a collection of his poetry. Anderson is also a talented music producer and student DJ.
This spring, Anderson has already been competing at indoor track meets in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships. He will also be looking to make a return trip to the Outdoor Championships in May.
