San Antonio, TEXAS – The Trinity track and field teams will head to Berry College this weekend for the SAA Outdoor Championships. On the women's side, the Tigers carry big expectations into the weekend after winning SAA Indoor Championships in the winter. For the men, they'll be looking to hold their own against a Centre College team that took a dominant win indoors.
The Trinity women won conference indoors by just half a point, and the outdoor championships look to be just as competitive. Based on the current SAA standings, they're led by Gianna Keena, Emerson Voldan and Annabelle Lanik, all of whom were crucial in the indoor victory. Keena ranks first in the 10,000-meter, second in the 5,000-meter and fifth in the 1500-meter. Voldan ranks second in the 1500-meter, third in the 5,000-meter and fourth in the 800-meter. Lanik is second in both the long jump and 200-meter. All three ladies will undoubtedly be big point scorers as the Tigers look to repeat as conference champions.
If the battle comes down to the 4x400-meter relay, as it did indoors, it could shape up to be a riveting final event. Centre currently holds the No. 1 spot at 4:00.11, with Trinity just behind in 4:00.93.
On the men's side, the Tigers are led by Kyle Fix and Kaleem Howard. Fix currently ranks first in the 1500-meter and second in the 800-meter, while Howard ranks second in the 400-meter hurdles, fourth in the long jump and fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. Indoors, Centre took a commanding win by 65 points and have not slowed down since. The Tigers still earned an outdoor preseason ranking of No. 1, and will be looking to prove that ranking right this weekend.
