Preview - Back To Home Base
The Tigers will open the weekend against the University of Texas-Dallas on Friday, September 13th at 6:00 PM. Then, Trinity will host Howard Payne on Sunday, September 15th at 3:00 PM.
On the Texas-Dallas Comets: The Comets have started the 2024 season with a 1-1 record. They faced tough competition early on, losing their first game to #5 Christopher Newport but bouncing back with a win against #12 Virginia Wesleyan. Offensively, UTD will rely on junior forward Chelsea Vilca, a transfer from Seminole State College, who scored 35 goals and recorded 11 assists during her time in the NJCAA. Another key player is junior transfer Kaley Robinson, the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Year at Brookhaven College and a USC All-American. In their last matchup, the Tigers narrowly lost to UTD 1-0. Historically, Trinity has a strong record of 17-1 against the Comets.
On the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets: HPU has a 2-1-1 record so far this season. After starting the year with an impressive 8-0 win over Lyon College, the Jackets went on to defeat Schreiner, lose to UTRGV, and tie St. Thomas. Junior midfielder Brenna Douthit leads the team with two goals, but the offense has primarily revolved around freshman forward Ava Thompson. Thompson has contributed three assists and a total of five points so far this year. Defensively, the Yellow Jackets have been strong, conceding only two goals against NCAA III opponents. The last and only time these two teams met, the Tigers dominated with a 6-0 victory, scoring five of their goals in the second half.
Looking Ahead
Trinity will travel to Virginia to take one Christopher Newport and Virginia Wesleyan.
