DESTIN, Fla. – The No. 16 Trinity Women's Golf team finished day two of the Golfweek October Classic, moving up to fifth place ahead of final round action on Tuesday.
The Tigers built on their opening-day effort, shooting a thirteen-over-par 301 to climb into fifth place with a total 608 (307-301). Trinity continued to showcase their ability to navigate a demanding golf course, tallying 47 pars over the day of tournament play. They sit 14 shots back from leaders Williams and Hamilton but have lots of positives to take from today's round, with another 18 still to come. Trinity will look to build on their upwards momentum going into the final day tomorrow and make a run to push toward the top of the leaderboard.
Jessica Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) continues to lead the Tigers with an outstanding even-par 72. After a difficult start saw Mason go four-over through the first five holes, she showed her composure and capitalised on par 5's to go four-under for the remainder of the round. A closing birdie capped off an excellent round, moving Mason solo 5th in the leaderboard with a +2 total (74-72).
Naaz Mehta (Newton, Pa. / Council Rock North) carded an impressive three-over-par 75 to improve on yesterday's round and produce an important score for the Tigers. An eventful round for Mehta saw her make four birdies and fight through the difficult back nine at just two-over, leaving her +9 and T-25 (78-73).
Mason Fikes (Dallas, Texas / Plano West) carded a five-over-par 77, matching yesterday's round. Mason was five-over at the turn but fought hard to shoot an exceptional even-par back nine leaving her in T-30 (77-77).
Natalie Lewis (El Paso, Texas / Coronado) fought hard for a well-played five-over-par 77, closing with two birdies to finish. Lewis sits in T-35 with a total +11 (78-77).
Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) carded an 84 leaving her in T-60 (78-84).
Looking Ahead
Trinity will look to close the gap to Williams and Hamilton during tomorrow's final round, building upon the momentum they have created.
