SAN ANTONIO – The 16th-ranked Trinity University women's golf team is in first place after day one of the inaugural
Carla Spenkoch Invitational on Monday at The Quarry Golf Club.
The Tigers shot an opening-round team score of 298 (+14) and are leading the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) by two shots. The University of Redlands (CA) are third after shooting a 306 (+22) and Trinity's "B" team is fourth with a first-round score of 323 on Monday. East Texas Baptist University is fifth, followed by McMurry University (TX), the University of St. Thomas (TX), and Texas Lutheran University.
First-year
Mason Fikes (Dallas, Texas (Plano West) led the Tigers with an even-par 71 today, which puts her as the tournament leader among 41 total golfers. She carded a team-best four birdies in today's round. Fellow first-year
Naaz Mehta (Newton, Pa. / Council Rock North) is tied for second in the tournament after shooting a one-over 72 that included two birdies. Senior
Jessica Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) also had a pair of birdies and shot a 76 to open the tournament, which is tied for eighth in the field after one round. Junior
Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) shot a 79 to tie for 13th place individually and first-year
Natalie Lewis (El Paso, Texas / Coronado) is tied for 18th after a first-round score of 82.
Sophomore
Sabrina Nader (Houston, Texas / The Kinkaid School) paced Trinity's second team in the tournament with a first-round 77 that is 11th place in the field. Junior
Kayleigh Yang (The Woodlands, Texas / Oak Ridge) finished her round with three birdies and a score of 80 that was good for 16th place. Sophomores
Isabella Bullock (Harlingen, Texas / Harlingen) and
Peyton Flynn (Geismar, La. / Ascension Christian) both shot 83 on Monday and are tied for 22nd individually.
