SAN ANTONIO – The 16th-ranked Trinity University women's golf team won the inaugural
Carla Spenkoch Invitational by just one stroke on Tuesday at The Quarry Golf Club.
The Tigers shot a combined team score of 604 (298-306) to hold off second-place University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) and their score of 605 (300-305). The University of Redlands (TX) finished third with a total of 607 (306-301) and also had the medalist winner. East Texas Baptist University finished fourth, followed by a second Trinity team in fifth, the University of St. Thomas (TX) in sixth, McMurry University (TX) in seventh, and Texas Lutheran University in eighth.
Mason Fikes (Dallas, Texas (Plano West) led Trinity with a 149 (71-78) and finished second overall by just four shots.
Jessica Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) was fifth after finishing just two shots back of her teammate with a 151 (76-75) over the two-day event.
Naaz Mehta (Newton, Pa. / Council Rock North) tied for sixth after shooting 152 (72-80) at the event, while
Natalie Lewis (El Paso, Texas / Coronado) scored a 155 (82-73) that included Trinity's best score of the day (73).
Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) finished 20th with her score of 162 (79-83) at the tournament.
Trinity's "B" team was led by
Sabrina Nader (Houston, Texas / The Kinkaid School) and her score of 160 (77-83) that landed her in a tie for 17th.
Isabella Bullock (Harlingen, Texas / Harlingen) shot 163 (83-80) to finish 21st, while
Peyton Flynn (Geismar, La. / Ascension Christian) was tied for 24th after shooting 166 (83-83), and
Kayleigh Yang (The Woodlands, Texas / Oak Ridge) was tied for 26th with a score of 167 (80-87).

Trinity will close out the fall season with the Golfweek Fall Invitational next weekend in Destin, Fla. The three-round event begins Sunday, October 12, at the Sandestin Resort & Club.
