Preview - The Tournament Begins in Memphis
Trinity will be heading to Memphis, TN this weekend to compete in the conference tournament, carrying the momentum of an outstanding regular season. After finishing first in their conference, the Tigers have earned a well-deserved first-round bye, a reward that not only reflects their consistency and dominance throughout the season but also provides a crucial advantage heading into the weekend.
Because of their top seed, the Tigers won't take the field until Friday, Nov. 7 at 11:30 AM CT, while teams ranked third through sixth will battle it out in Thursday's opening round. This extra day of rest gives Trinity a valuable edge, allowing players to recover, refocus, and prepare strategically for their semifinal matchup. In tournament play, where fatigue can often be the difference between advancing and elimination, fresh legs can make all the difference.
The Tigers will face the winner of Thursday's Oglethorpe vs. Centre matchup. Trinity has already proven themselves against both opponents this season. They defeated Oglethorpe 3-0 on Oct. 3, displaying a dominant attack and solid defensive organization. A week later, on Oct. 11, the Tigers shut out Centre 2-0 in another confident performance. Still, despite their earlier success, the Tigers know that tournament games bring a different kind of intensity and that every opponent will be fighting to keep their season alive.
Oglethorpe and Centre most recently met on Oct. 26, when the Stormy Petrels edged out a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal in the 83rd minute. Centre outshot Oglethorpe 16-5 but struggled to find the target, putting only three of those attempts on frame. That inefficiency cost them, and the Colonels will undoubtedly be eager to redeem themselves in Thursday's rematch. Whether Oglethorpe can repeat their defensive grit or Centre can convert their chances more effectively remains to be seen, but either way, Trinity will be watching closely.
With strong performances across the pitch this season, the Tigers enter the tournament as clear favorites. However, they'll need to stay sharp, disciplined, and hungry if they hope to turn their regular-season dominance into postseason success. As head coach and players alike have emphasized, every match from this point on could be their last, and Trinity plans to make sure that's not the case anytime soon.
Looking Ahead
Â
The Tigers must win this Friday to continue on to the tournament final, which will be held Nov. 11th at 12:00 PM CT.
