PALM DESERT, CALIF. — No. 18 Tiger Women's Golf in 10th After Day One of NCAA DIII Preview
The No. 18 Trinity University women's golf team sits in 10th place after the opening round of the NCAA Division III Preview, finishing with a team score of 301 (+13).
Carnegie Mellon leads the field at 281 (-7), followed by Emory in second at 285 (-3) and NYU in third at 288 (E). Pomona-Pitzer is fourth at 290 (+2). Randolph-Macon, Washington University, and Washington & Lee are tied for fifth at 293 (+5). Carleton (296, +8) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (297, +9) sit just ahead of Trinity, while Redlands (304), UC Santa Cruz (315), UMHB (318), George Fox (321), and Centre (327) round out 11th through 15th place.
Jessica Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) led the Tigers with an even-par 72, placing her in a tie for 12th. Mason tallied four birdies—two on the front nine and two on the back—and went 2-under on par 4s. Close behind was
Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek), who carded a 73 (+1) to sit tied for 19th. Huddleston recorded three birdies and played the back nine even at 36. Notably, she birdied three of the four par 3s, leading all players in that category.
Freshman
Natalie Lewis (El Paso, Texas / Coronado) shot a 77 (+5) in her collegiate debut, highlighted by a birdie on the front nine and steady play on the back at just one-over. Fellow first-year players
Naaz Mehta (Newton, Pa. / Council Rock North) and
Mason Fikes (Dallas, Texas / Plano West) also made their debuts, posting rounds of 77 (+5) and 87 (+15), respectively. Lewis sits tied for 52nd, Mehta is 61st, and Fikes is 81st.
