ROME, GA. – Trinity's
Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills) and
Kishan Kersten (Plano, Texas / West) closed out their ITA Cup run on Saturday. The Tiger doubles duo ended the weekend on a high note against the No. 3 seeds from Amherst College, while Perry fell in the singles consolation.
A day after being upset in the Quarterfinals, Perry and Kersten bounced back against Sillaste and Frangenberg of Amherst College (MA). The seniors edged a tight opening set in a 7-3 tiebreak, then took control in the second to close out a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win.
Perry also returned to the singles consolations after a three-set win over Nordahl Jensen of Whitman College (WA) on Friday. On Saturday, he ran into Matorin of Case Western Reserve University (OH) and fell 6-1, 6-3.
The pair finished 2-1 in doubles, and Perry went 1-2 in singles after opening against the tournament's No. 4 seed. Both seniors earned their trip to Rome by winning at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, where Perry swept the singles and doubles titles. That run brought Perry's career total to five ITA All-American honors and gave Kersten the third of his career.
