SAN ANTONIO/SEGUIN, Texas – The Trinity University men's and women's track & field team competed at both the Texas Lutheran University (TX) Invitational and the University of Texas-San Antonio Invitational this weekend, recording the first outdoor results of the season for the Tigers.
UTSA Invitational
Annabelle Lanik (Sugar Land, Texas / St. John's) won the women's long jump event after reaching 6.28 meters, while
Anne Snider (Waco, Texas / Live Oak Classical) took gold in the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:28.76.
Avery Hand (Abiquiu, N.M. / Terrell Academy) was third in the 5K event with a time of 19:13.35.
George Mikhael (Livermore, Calif. / Granada) and
Nathaniel Trevino (San Antonio, Texas / Central Catholic) took third and fourth, respectively, with times of 15:52.45 and 16:03.49 in the men's 5K.
Trinity had three women and five men finish in the top 20 in the 800-meter run.
Halle Hamilton (Craig, Colo. / Moffat County) earned the top finish after running 10th in the women's race with a time of 2:15.47.
Annette Smith (Houston, Texas / Ridge Point) was 16th in 2:21.32 and
Josette Gurule (Santa Fe, N.M. / Academy for Technology and the Classics) was 18th in 2:22.56. The men's top finisher was
Bryce Williams (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan) in 13th place with a time of 1:57.21, edging out teammate
Jackson Gallagher (Ft. Worth, Texas / Southwest Christian) in 14th by a mere 0.11 seconds.
Sebastian Langer (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) was 16th in 1:57.69, followed by
Shreyus Naik (Austin, Texas / Westwood) in 18th (1:58.77), and
Alex Marquez (Leander, Texas / Leander) in 20th (1:59.35) to round out a prolific event for both teams.
Thomas Melina Raab (Austin, Texas / McCallum) finished 13th in the men's 1,500-meter run in 4:00.13 and
Jesus Rojas (Houston, Texas / Ridge Point) was 19th with a time of 4:10.17. For the women,
Gianna Keena (Lakeway, Texas / Lake Travis) and
Emerson Voldan (Arlington, Texas / Mansfield Summit) were both in the top 20 as well. Keena finished 14th in 4:44.38 and Voldan was two spots back with a time of 4:47.07.
TLU Invitational
Trinity swept the men's and women's pole vault with impressive numbers for both the men's and women's event. The Tigers took the top three spots on the men's side and held each of the top five positions for the women.
Addison Doss (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) won the women's event after topping 3.50 meters.
Chloe McCloskey (La Vernia, Texas / La Vernia) finished second after clearing 3.35 meter, followed by
Bridget Roth (Houston, Texas / Second Baptist) in third (3.20 meter),
Milena Otoo (Mount Holly, N.J. / Rancocas Valley Regional) in fourth (3.05), and
Kaelin Leishman (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton North) in fifth (2.90).
Jaden Martens (San Antonio, Texas / Churchill) went for 3.80 meters to win the men's competition, while
Seth Jacobs (Santa Fe, Texas / Santa Fe) and
Adrian Suarez (Carrollton, Texas / Greenhill) were second and third after hitting 3.65 meters.
Sophia Ortiz (Liberty Hill, Texas / Liberty Hill) won the women's high jump with a mark of 1.60, followed by teammate
Brightly Thonig (Homer, Alaska / Homer) in third after clearing 1.40.
Christian Mullaney (Palisade, Colo. / Palisade) was fourth (1.90) and
Andrew Mueller (Bakersfield, Calif. / Bakersfield Christian) was fifth (1.85) to lead the Tiger men in the event.
Rachel Bell (Manvel, Texas / Lutheran South Academy) won the women's hammer throw with a mark of 41.52 meters, while
Trinity Jefferson (Spring, Texas / Klein Oak) and
Madeleine Seabolt (San Diego, Calif. / Mt. Carmel) were third and fifth with respective throws of 40.75 and 36.01 meters. For the men's hammer, Trinity had three athletes in the top six, led by
Ian Zahner (Thornton, Colo. / Stargate) and his runner-up throw of 44.89 meters.
Aaron Chang (Fullerton, Calif. / Valley Christian) was fifth (39.95) and
Cole Noack (Houston, Texas / Lutheran South Academy) finished sixth (39.88).
Trinity also had three wins on the track at Texas Lutheran, including the 4x100-meter relay team of
Nia Scott (Dickinson, Texas / Dickinson),
Shifa Daredia (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson),
Isabella Gaylord (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan), and Lanik. The Tiger quartet won with a time of 46.78 seconds. Gaylord also won the women's 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.90, followed by teammate
Avery Parvin (San Antonio, Texas / Providence) in third with a time of 1:09.59.
Kaleem Howard (Jacksboro, Texas / Jacksboro) was the runner-up in the men's event, clocking in at 56.80 seconds.
Kris Duggan (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) won the men's 110-meter hurdles in 14.62 with
Henry Selman (Lakeway, Texas / Lake Travis) coming in third at 15.07 seconds and Howard earning fifth in 15.26 seconds. Gaylord was second in the women's 100-meter hurdles in 15.35, while
Ciandra Carrico (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) finished fourth in 16.55 and Parvin was sixth in 16.98 seconds. Additionally, Gaylord earned bronze in the long jump after reaching 4.72 meters, followed closely by both Carrico in fourth at 4.71 meters and
Emilie Mireles (Brownsville, Texas / Hanna Early College) placing fifth at 4.67 meters. Howard led the Tiger men with his fourth-place jump of 6.66 meters.
Lanik was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.38 seconds, with Daredia coming in fifth at 25.05.
Orie Piken (Torrance, Calif. / West Torrance) finished third for Trinity's men with a time of 21.39 seconds.
Carly Hunt (McKinney, Texas / Boyd) was second in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.90.
Stephanie Suarez (Harlingen, Texas / Harlingen) finished second in the women's 5K at Texas Lutheran with a time of 18:58.29 and was one of four Tigers in the top seven.
Kate Boone (Temple, Texas / Holy Trinity Catholic) finished one spot back in 19:19.62, with
Maddie Jones (Austin, Texas / McNeil) in sixth (19:48.50) and
Kelsay Edwards (San Antonio, Texas / Communications Arts) earning seventh (19:52.57).
Luke Whitfill (Overland Park, Kan. / The Barstow School) was third and
James Rush (Iola, Texas / The Kinkaid School) finished fifth for the men with times of 15:47.35 and 15:52.38.
Finishing up the track competition, Scott and Daredia were third and fourth in the women's 100-meter dash, crossing the line in 12.36 and 12.38 seconds. Piken also earned fourth on the men's side with a time of 10.81 seconds. Thonig also finished fourth in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.78.
Krista Wolfhope (Austin, Texas / Vista Ridge) led three runners in the top six of the women's 1,500-meter run, finishing in 5:08.53.
Sydney Tucker (McKinney, Texas / Boyd) and
Merritt Moore (Round Rock, Texas / Round Rock) were fifth and sixth with times of 5:10.87 and 5:15.25.
Back to the field events, the Tigers swept silver medals in the discus. Seabolt was the women's runner-up with a throw of 36.61 meters and
John Michael Martin (Allen, Texas / Lovejoy) finished second on the men's side with this 49.35-meter throw.
Caydon Ferrell (Beaumont, Texas / Hamshire-Fannett) was third in the men's discus with his best throw of 43.33 meters, with
LJ Brown (Dallas, Texas / Poteet) finishing fifth (41.41) and Zahner earning sixth (41.22). Zahner was also the runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 14.01 meters, followed closely by Chang in third at 13.79. Ferrell was fifth (12.92) and Martin came in sixth (12.77). The women's shot saw Jefferson and Seabolt finish fourth and fifth with throws of 11.17 meters. Carrico led a foursome of Tigers to finish in the top seven of the triple jump, clearing 10.73 meters to earn third place. Gaylor was fourth with a jump of 10.61 meters, followed by
Aleea Bridges (Albuquerque, N.M. / Albuquerque Academy) in sixth at 10.03 and Mireles coming in seventh at 9.97 meters.
Ayoob Ismael (Concord, N.H. / Concord) was Trinity's top finisher in the javelin at 46.16 meters to earn a fifth-place finish in the event.
