#18 Women's Golf Second After First Round of GreyStone Classic

DICKSON, Tenn. – The No. 18 Trinity Women's Golf team sits in second place after opening round play at the GreyStone Classic, held at Greystone Golf Club.

The Tigers carded a 306 (+20) in round one, trailing tournament leader Sewanee (+14) by six shots heading into the final round. With a field scoring average of 82.14, conditions proved demanding throughout the day, yet Trinity showed real offensive capability to hold second place comfortably ahead of Southwestern (TX) at +42 and Maryville (TN) at +43.

Jessica Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) was the standout of the opening round, carding a 70 (-2) to sit solo 2nd, just one shot behind Sewanee's Natalie Catapano. Mason was exceptional throughout, recording five birdies — the most of any player in the field — and posting a superb front nine of 32 (-4). She leads the field outright in Par 5 scoring at three-under and ranks tied for first in Par 4 scoring at even par, she is one of only two players in the entire field to finish under par on the day.

Natalie Lewis (El Paso, Texas / Coronado) posted an impressive 77 (+5) to sit T5 individually, one of Trinity's most consistent performances on the day. Lewis recorded three birdies — tied for third in the field — and was particularly strong on the front nine, going out in 1 under par including a superb chip-in on the 1st. She also ranks tied for third in Par 4 scoring across the field. Lewis showed exceptional golf going even par through the 15th hole, despite a challenging finish she remains very much in contention.

Naaz Mehta (Newton, Pa. / Council Rock North) shot a 79 (+7) to place 8th individually, providing crucial depth scoring for the Tigers. Mehta led the entire field in Par 3 scoring with an average of 2.75, the best mark in the tournament, and recorded 10 pars — tied for seventh in the field. Her efficiency on the short holes was a quiet but important factor in Trinity's strong team position.

Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) carded an 82 (+10) to sit T14, contributing a birdie and recording a steady front nine going out at just 3+. Huddleston ranked tied for seventh in Par 4 scoring across the field and will look to build on that consistency in round two.

Mason Fikes (Dallas, Texas / Plano West) and Sabrina Nader (Houston, Texas / The Kinkaid School) each shot an 86 (+14) to sit T20, rounding out the Tiger scoring. Fikes was particularly strong on the Par 3s, ranking tied for fifth in the field in that category, while Nader had a strong front nine at 4+ but a challenging back nine to close.

As a team, Trinity ranked tied for first in Par 3 scoring and second in total birdies with 10, matching Sewanee for the most aggressive offensive output in the field. The Tigers also limited doubles to 12, the second fewest in the tournament, showing the kind of scorecard management that will be critical heading into round two.

Looking Ahead
Trinity returns to action Tuesday for the final round of the GreyStone Classic at Greystone Golf Club. The Tigers will look to close the six-shot gap on Sewanee and claim the tournament title.
