DICKINSON, Tenn. – The 18th-ranked Trinity University women's golf team rallied on day two to win the GreyStone Classic by two shots over #23 Sewanee on Tuesday.
The Tigers scored a two-round total of 611 (308-303) to edge Sewanee's score of 613 (302-311). Southwestern University (TX) and Maryville College (TN) came in third and fourth after scoring 651 (330-321) and 684 (331-353), respectively.
Jessica Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) won medalist honors to lead the Tigers to victory, finishing with an even-par score of 144 (70-74). Mason was two-under after the first day of action thanks to five birdies and a blistering 32 on the final nine holes. She added four more birdies on day two to lead the Tigers with nine total in two rounds.
Naaz Mehta (Newton, Pa. / Council Rock North) and
Natalie Lewis (El Paso, Texas / Coronado) tied for sixth individually after scoring 156 over the two-day event. Mehta shot 79-77 and Lewis was just the opposite at 77-79 in the two rounds. Lewis played her final nine holes of round one at one-under 35, carding three total birdies on the day.
Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) finished tied for ninth to put four Trinity golfers in the top 10 individually, shooting 159 (82-77) overall.
Sabrina Nader (Houston, Texas / The Kinkaid School) was tied for 12th after shooting 161 (86-75) and posting the biggest improvement from round one to round two. Her second-round score of 75 was the second-lowest of the day to help Trinity make its comeback.
Mason Fikes (Dallas, Texas / Plano West) rounded out the Tiger competitors with a score of 167 (86-81) that was good for a tie for 18th individually.
