PEORIA, ARIZONA – No. 19 Trinity Women's Golf sits in fifth place after the opening round of the Westbrook Invitational.
The Tigers posted a team score of 308 (+24) on day one. No. 16 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps leads the field after firing an even-par 284, while No. 13 Redlands is second at 305 (+21). No. 27 UC Santa Cruz and No. 28 George Fox are close behind at 306 (+22) and 307 (+23), respectively, with No. 26 Arizona Christian just behind Trinity at 309 (+25). Illinois Wesleyan (317, +33), Centre (321, +37), and Whitworth (326, +42) round out the standings. With several teams separated by only a handful of strokes, the tournament remains wide open heading into the second round.
Jessica Mason (Westminster, Colorado / Holy Family) led the Tigers with an outstanding even-par 71 and currently sits in third place individually. Mason recorded five birdies during her round, including three on the back nine, where she surged with a two-under-par 33 to finish strong.
Naaz Mehta (Newtown, Pennsylvania / Council Rock North) delivered a solid performance as well, carding a 76 to place 12th individually. Mehta played steady golf throughout the day, finishing par or better on 13 of her 18 holes. Her back nine featured five pars and a birdie to help keep her round on track.
Natalie Lewis (El Paso, Texas / Coronado) finished with a 79 and added a birdie during her round, placing her 24th in the individual standings. Mason Fikes (Dallas, Texas / Plano West) and Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Arizona / Boulder Creek) rounded out the Tiger lineup, each shooting an 82 to sit tied for 32nd after the first day.
Looking Ahead
The Tigers return to the course tomorrow for round two, with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. as Trinity looks to climb the leaderboard.
