PEORIA, ARIZONA – No. 19 Trinity Women's Golf turned in a strong final round to finish third at the Westbrook Invitational.
After opening the tournament at +24, the Tigers improved by 10 strokes in the final round, posting a 298 (+14) to finish the event at +38. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps captured the team title at +3, while Redlands finished second at +24. George Fox trailed Trinity by just one stroke at +40, and Arizona Christian placed fifth at +48. Illinois Wesleyan (+48), UC Santa Cruz (+49), Whitworth (+67), and Centre (+79) rounded out the field.
Jessica Mason (Westminster, Colorado / Holy Family) once again paced the Tigers, firing a 73 (+2) in the final round to finish second individually. Mason recorded four birdies on the day and set the tone early, shooting one-under-par (35) on the front nine.
Naaz Mehta (Newtown, Pennsylvania / Council Rock North) and Mason Fikes (Dallas, Texas / Plano West) both delivered near career-low rounds to help fuel Trinity's charge up the leaderboard. Each carded a 73 (+2) in the final round. Mehta tallied three birdies and shot a 37 (+1) on the front nine to secure a 12th-place finish. Fikes matched the strong play with four birdies, including three on the back nine, and closed her round in style by playing seven of her final nine holes at par or better. She finished the back nine at one-under-par (35) to place 22nd overall.
Natalie Lewis (El Paso, Texas / Coronado) finished 27th after shooting a 79 in the final round, highlighted by 12 pars. Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Arizona / Boulder Creek) carded an 83 on the day and finished 41st.
Looking Ahead
The Tigers will travel to Tennessee for the Greystone Classic on March 30–31. The event will provide Trinity with its first look at the course that will host this year's Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championship.
