No. 18 Tiger Women’s Golf In First After First Round of West Region Invite

Whitney, Texas – The No. 18 Trinity Women's Golf team sits in first place after opening round play at White Bluff Resort, held at White Bluff Resort - Old Course in Whitney, Texas.

With a field scoring average of 87.24 on a brutally demanding course, the Tigers carded a +31 in round one, leading the field ahead of Mary Hardin-Baylor (+40) and Hardin-Simmons (+48). Both Southwestern teams are in fourth and fifth at +55 and +80. Dallas is in sixth at +85.

The Rundown

Mason Fikes (Dallas, Texas / Plano West) was the standout performer of the day, carding a four-over-par 76 (+4) to sit T1 individually. Fikes was competing as an individual, with her score not contributing to the team total. Fikes impressively ranked first in Par 4 scoring among the whole field and recorded two birdies on the day, setting the tone for what was a strong showing from the Tigers.

Jessica Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) led the Trinity team with a five-over-par 77 (+5), sitting T3 in the field. Mason showed more aggressive golf, recording three birdies on the day, ranking tied for first in the field for total birdies. She also ranks tied first in Par 5 scoring, showing a real ability to capitalise on the longer holes and giving Trinity a genuine edge over the rest of the field.

Natalie Lewis (El Paso, Texas / Coronado) carded a seven-over-par 79 (+7) to sit 6th in the field, and put together one of the most composed rounds of the day. Lewis recorded two birdies and led all players in Par 3 scoring at even par, the best in the entire field, showing a precision on the short holes that proved invaluable.

Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) brought plenty of firepower to the Trinity lineup, posting an eight-over-par 80 (+8) to sit T7 while recording three birdies, matching Mason for the team high. Huddleston ranked tied for third in Par 5 scoring and was consistently aggressive, giving herself birdie opportunities throughout the round especially on the front nine going out in 38.

Sabrina Nader (Houston, Texas / The Kinkaid School) carded an eleven-over-par 83 (+11) to sit T11. Nader produced a solid front nine of 39 before a tougher back nine on a course that proved demanding for the entire field, and her contribution kept Trinity firmly in control at the top of the leaderboard.

Naaz Mehta (Newton, Pa. / Council Rock North) posted a nineteen-over-par 91 (+19) to sit 25th. Bella Bullock (Harlingen, Texas / Harlingen) carded a twenty-one-over-par 93 (+21) competing as an individual, sitting 26th in the field.

Trinity leads the field outright in total birdies with eight, and ranks first in Par 5 scoring at +2, the best mark in the field. The Tigers also rank tied first in Par 4 scoring alongside Mary Hardin-Baylor, demonstrating a well-rounded performance across all hole types on a course that proved extremely demanding for the entire field.

Looking Ahead

Trinity will return to action tomorrow for round two of the White Bluff Resort tournament at White Bluff Resort - Old Course. The Tigers will look to protect their nine-shot lead and deliver another strong showing on a course that has already shown its teeth.
