Trinity Track & Field Teams Race In Cactus Cup and Lee Fast Break

San Antonio, TEXAS – The Trinity track and field team will split up again this weekend, with the bulk of the team heading to Texas A&M-Kingsville for the Cactus Cup, and a small group of distance runners heading to Lee University for the Lee Fast Break Invitational. The Tigers will be looking to feed off the momentum they built this past weekend after a strong showing at home, including two school records and a host of new marks on the program's all-time top 10.

J.G. Gonzales Memorial Invitational Highlights

Ian Zahner (Thornton, Colo. / Stargate) broke his own school record, set just two weeks ago, in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 49.32m to take second overall. The freshman has now put nearly 3 meters on the old school record and is chasing being the first Tiger in history to break 50.00m. Aaron Chang (Fullerton, Calif. / Valley Christian) was third with a PR of 46.24m, making him third on the program's all-time list.

Annabelle Lanik (Sugar Land, Texas / St. John's) won the women's long jump going away, taking first place by almost half a meter with a new school record of 6.18m, just besting her old record by .02m. She remains second on the NCAA Division III list with an all but guaranteed trip to nationals in May.

Halle Hamilton (Craig, Colo. / Moffat County) led a parade of Tigers to a 1-2-3-4 finish in the women's 800-meter dash, running 2:15 for the third week in a row. With her time of 2:15.49, Hamilton narrowly missed her PR but emerged with a commanding win, followed by Ciara Catton (Leander, Texas / Leander) in a big PR of 2:16.67, Emerson Voldan (Arlington, Texas / Mansfield Summit) in a PR of 2:17.32 and Annette Smith (Houston, Texas / Ridge Point) in 2:18.20. Catton is now third on Trinity's all-time list, while Voldan betters her fourth place standing in school history.

Sophia Ortiz (Liberty Hill, Texas / Liberty Hill) won the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.64m, tying her for 12th nationally and moving her into fifth in program history.

Isabella Gaylord (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan) took second in the women's 100-meter hurdles, breaking 15.00 for the first time with a 14.98 to move into third in program history. Gaylord was also second in the women's 400-meter hurdles, setting another PR of 1:03.55 to move into sixth in program history

Gianna Keena (Lakeway, Texas / Lake Travis) put on a dominating performance in the women's 1500-meter, winning by nearly 15 seconds to set a PR of 4:42.82, moving her up to fourth in school history.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will take a weekend off to gear up for the SAA Outdoor Championships from Apr. 24-25. Both teams enter the conference meet having been voted the pre-season favorites after the women were crowned champions indoors and the men took second.
