CLEVELAND, Tenn. / KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Trinity track and field team put up solid marks at Lee University and Texas A&M-Kingsville this evening in day one of their last meets before the SAA Outdoor Championships. A small group of distance runners threw down in Tennessee, setting a slew of new PRs and mixing up the program list in the process. The throwers got things started in Kingsville, ramping up the momentum for a promising day two.
Lee Fast Break Invitational Highlights
Emerson Voldan (Arlington, Texas / Mansfield Summit) led the Tigers in the women's 1500-meter with a new PR of 4:41.30 to take 14th overall, moving her up to third on Trinity's all-time list. She was followed closely by
Ciara Catton (Leander, Texas / Leander), who set a new PR of 4:41.77 to take 17th overall and move into fourth in program history. She now owns the fastest freshman times in school history in the 800-meter and 1500-meter. Voldan is 54th in Division III, while Catton is 60th.
Josette Gurule (Santa Fe, N.M. / Academy for Technology and the Classics) was 21st in 4:44.58, and
Esperanza Vazquez (Houston, Texas / Incarnate Word High School) was 32nd in a PR of 4:52.07.
Kyle Fix (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) took 12th overall in the men's 1500-meter, running a PR of 3:55.67 to move into sixth in program history and 44th in Division III.
Logan Nasky (Irving, Texas / MacArthur) was just off his PR in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, setting an SB of 9:36.83 to take 17th overall and move into 49th in Division III.
Anne Snider (Waco, Texas / Live Oak Classical) had a huge race in the women's 5000-meter, running a PR of 17:29.87 to move into third in program history, pushing Distance Coach
Emily Daum into fourth place. With the time, she also moves into 39th in Division III.
Elijah Bliss (Garden Ridge, Texas / Davenport) ran a PR of 15:00.10 in the men's 5000-meter, setting the new program freshman record and moving into fifth place in school history.
Nathaniel Trevino (San Antonio, Texas / Central Catholic) set an SB of 15:28.95 to take 41st, while
Luke Whitfil (Overland Park, Kan. / The Barstow School) set a new PR of 15:42.19.
In her debut in the women's 10000-meter,
Gianna Keena (Lakeway, Texas / Lake Travis) took 15th in 37:14.41, good for seventh in school history and 30th in Division III. As Snider did earlier in the evening, Keena also bested Coach Daum's college best, pushing her into eighth all-time.
Cactus Cup Highlights
Rachel Bell (Manvel, Texas / Lutheran South Academy) was ninth in the women's hammer throw in 40.86m.
Trinity Jefferson (Spring, Texas / Klein Oak) was just behind, taking tenth with a toss of 40.66m.
Ian Zahner (Thornton, Colo. / Stargate) was fourth in the men's hammer throw in 44.40m, with
Aaron Chang (Fullerton, Calif. / Valley Christian) close behind in sixth with a throw of 43.25m.
Looking Ahead
Both squads will be back in action for day two of their respective meets tomorrow, looking to capitalize on some early momentum from day one.
