#19 Women's Golf Second After Opening Round of SAA Championships

DICKSON, Tenn. – The No. 19 Trinity Women's Golf team sits in second place after opening round play at the SAA Conference Championship, held at Greystone Golf Club. Trinity carded a seventeen-over-par +17 on a par-72 layout playing 5,600 yards, with a field scoring average of 81.67 reflecting the difficulty the course posed throughout the day.

Sewanee (TN) leads the field at +10, with Trinity seven shots back in second. Oglethorpe University (GA) sits third at +28, Centre College (KY) fourth at +29, and Southwestern University (TX) fifth at +34. Rhodes College (TN), Berry College (GA), and Maryville University (TN) round out the field at +37, +50, and +60. Trinity ranks second in total birdies with nine and second in Par 4 scoring across the field, a combination that reflects the attacking intent the Tigers brought to a demanding opening round.

The Rundown
Jessica Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) led the Tigers with a two-over-par 74 (+2), sitting in a tie for third in the field and ranked #20 individually. Mason was composed throughout, ranking tied second in Par 3 scoring at even-par and tied second in Par 4 scoring with an average of 4.10, and her three birdies on the day ranked tied third in the field.

Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) posted a three-over-par 75 (+3) to sit seventh in the field. Huddleston was particularly reliable in the second half of her round, coming home in 36 to rank tied second in total pars with 13. She also ranked tied fifth in Par 4 scoring and tied sixth in Par 5 scoring at even par, giving Trinity a dependable presence across all hole types.

Naaz Mehta (Newton, Pa. / Council Rock North) carded a five-over-par 77 (+5) to sit in a tie for ninth. Mehta picked up two birdies on the day and ranked tied seventh in total pars with 12, contributing a steady round that kept Trinity well placed at the top of the leaderboard. Mason Fikes (Dallas, Texas / Plano West) shot a seven-over-par 79 (+7) to finish the day tied for 16th. Fikes went out in 40 before a back nine of 39, and her Par 4 average of 4.20 ranked tied fifth in the field, showing her quality on the longer holes even on a tough scoring day. Sabrina Nader (Houston, Texas / The Kinkaid School) carded a nine-over-par 81 (+9) to tie for 21st in the field, while Natalie Lewis (El Paso, Texas / Coronado) posted a ten-over-par 82 (+10) to tie for 25th.

Trinity will return to action tomorrow for round two of the SAA Championship at Greystone GC, looking to close the gap on Sewanee and make a push for the conference title.
