Men's Soccer Claims Eight All-SCAC Honorees; Knutson Named Newcomer of the Year

by Sam Demmon, Sports Information Student Intern

SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletics Conference announced its all-conference teams Wednesday afternoon, and eight members of the Trinity University men's soccer team earned recognition.

First-year Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs) was named the SCAC Newcomer of the Year and was the only Tiger first-year named to the All-SCAC Freshman Team. Knutson finished the season tied for second most in goals and points with six and 15, respectively.

Knutson was joined by senior JonConnor Rule (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) and junior Joseph Kuri (San Antonio, Texas / TMI Episcopal) as the three Trinity players that were named First Team All-SCAC this season.

Rule is one of Trinity's leading defensive players and received SCAC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season after the Tigers' shutout of Colorado College to clinch the SCAC regular season championship. Rule also earned First Team All-SCAC Honors in the 2020-21 season. Kuri has been one of the key members of Trinity's offense this season, scoring three of his six goals on the season in the Tigers 3-1 win over Southwestern University in regular-season conference play, a match that earned the junior SCAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

There were five total Trinity players named Second Team All-SCAC, including senior and team captain Pieter Blank (The Hague, The Netherlands / Dalton Voorburg). Blank was joined by seniors Fraser Burns (Dalry, Scotland / Garnock Academy), Michael Somerville (Ft. Worth, Texas / Arlington Heights), and Chen Adjei (Euless, TX / Trinity) as well as sophomore Louie Instrall (London, England / Hampton School).

Blank is another key member of the Tigers' defense and earned SCAC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season. Sommerville ranks in the top five in the SCAC for total goals and total points with 10 goals and 20 points on the season. Burns is second in the SCAC in assists with seven, contributing 15 points to the Tigers efforts this season. Adjei scored six goals and three assists for Trinity this season for a total of 15 points and has now earned his second career Second Team All-SCAC honors. Instrall was named to the all-tournament team at the All-SCAC Tournament, along with teammates Rule and Burns.

Trinity finished their season at the SCAC tournament with a 4-3 win over Colorado College to earn second place behind the conference champion, University of St. Thomas.
