Oxford,
Ohio – Two Trinity University divers
earned Honorable Mention All-America honors Saturday on the 3-meter
board at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving
Championships at Miami University.
First-year diver Hayley
Emerick of Portland, Texas
(Gregory-Portland), finished ninth with a
score of 443.65 and senior Lauren
Walstad of Katy (Katy) was
10th with a mark of 434.90.
Emerick registered a score of 420.35 in
Thursday's 1-meter competition and qualified as an Honorable
Mention All-American. She previously was named the Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Female Diver of the Year. Emerick
won the 1-meter (475.40) and 3-meter (496.05) boards – at
Southlake in February - setting SCAC records in both
events.
Walstad came in at No. 14 on the 1-meter board
with a score of 374.10. Walstad became an Honorable Mention
All-American for the third consecutive year. She was a two-time
SCAC Female Diver of the Year, earning the recognition in 2006 and
2007.
Leta
Gatton, a senior from Brownsville
(Hanna), placed 18th in
Saturday's 200-yard freestyle swimming with a time of 52.78
seconds. Earlier in the meet, Gatton swam the 100-yard freestyle in
1:54.65 and a No. 17 finish. Gatton missed the consolation final
group by just .13 seconds. She won the two SCAC events, capturing
the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.46 seconds and the 200
freestyle at 1:53.77. Both times broke SCAC records in each
event.
Meanwhile, senior Ryan
Cook of Katy (Taylor) will
compete in his fourth NCAA Division III Men's Diving
Championship, to be held next Thursday through Saturday, also at
Oxford.
Cook has been an All-American twice on the
3-meter board and an Honorable Mention All-American in the 1-meter
event.
