SAN ANTONIO - The Men's Swimming and Diving Team swam to a relay record in day one of the Tiger Invite and are currently in first place with a score of 356. Division II foe, University of Texas Permian Basin is in a close second with a men's team score of 317.
The Tigers quartet of Michael Kohl (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point), Kendal Southwell (Rio Rancho, N.M. / Calvert Online Academy), John Fontenot (Austin, Texas / St. Andrew's) and Nathaniel Early (Austin, Texas / Westwood) swam to a new school record in the 400 yard medley relay. The group took first with a time of 3:21.58.
Matteo Lanzara (Moraga, Calif. / Campolindo), Spencer Steward (Kearney, Mo. / Kearney), Caleb Manifold (Helotes, Texas / Homeschool) and Shamzi Alkaff (Ft. Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) took second in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:27.26
The grouping of Early, Kohl, Nolan Anthony (Missouri City, Texas / Missouri City) and Manifold swam to first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:23.18. Kohl also took first place in the 50 yard freestyle final with a time of 20.62, which is just .01 shy of the NCAA B Cut. That time has also moved Kohl into number two all time in Trinity history.
Omar Shahatit (Austin, Texas / Westlake) placed second in the 500 yard freestyle final with a time of 4:41.77. Shahatit swam to a preliminary time of 4:39.89 to qualify for the finals. Lanzara swam to a third place finish in the 200 yard IM final by racing to the wall in 1:54.95 which was just a few ticks away from the top time of 1:54.61.
Anthony and Early took second and third in the 50 yard freestyle with times of 20.91 and 21.02.
Konstantine Partalas (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan) won the one meter diving event with a score of 419.65, which was just four points more than the runner up.

The Tigers still have two more days left of the Tiger Invite. Swimming prelims are set to start at 10 a.m. at Alamo Heights Natatorium. Diving will also start at 10 with those events taking place on the Trinity campus in the Hixon Natatorium. The finals for swimming will start at 6 p.m. at the Alamo Heights Natatorium.
