Box Score San Antonio - Trinity's men's soccer team had
11 players earn All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honors
for the 2009 season, highlighted by Ben Grossman and Alan Llobet being selected for top honors.
Grossman was voted the SCAC Offensive Player of the Year, while
Llobet was the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year. Both
players also earned a spot on the All-SCAC First Team, and both are
repeat honorees. Grossman was an All-SCAC First Team
selection last year, while Llobet earned a spot on the All-SCAC
Second Team in 2008.
Additionally, Head Coach Paul
McGinlay earned his 11th SCAC Coach of the Year award, securing
the honor for the fifth consecutive season. McGinlay led the
Tigers to a 15-1-2 record during the regular season, winning the
team's eighth straight conference title with a 10-0-0 SCAC
record. Trinity also advanced to the NCAA Playoffs for the
eighth straight time, but was upset in the second round.
Also earning spots on the All-SCAC First Team were Patrick Johnson, Chesley Farmer, and Zach Garcia. Johnson was also on the All-SCAC
First Team last season. Four players were Second Team
honorees, including two-time All-SCAC player Joseph DeCosta. Joining DeCosta were Conner Hickey, Eric Henderson, and Nima Naderi. Tommy Barros and Andrew Chong rounded out the Tigers on the All-SCAC
teams, earning All-SCAC Third Team honors.
Grossman was third in the SCAC with 32 points this season,
scoring 14 goals and recording four assists. He tied for the
SCAC lead with 14 goals this year, and also led the conference with
six game-winning goals, and twice earned SCAC Player of the Week
honors this season.
Llobet anchored a Trinity defense that allowed just 10 goals in
18 games during the regular season, recording a league-best 12
shutouts. He also had game-winning goals in a pair of
overtime SCAC victories this season.
The 2009 season marks the third time that Trinity has won both
Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors, though the
Tigers have had five total winners in both categories. The
SCAC has given top offensive and defensive honors since 2003, with
Trinity securing five in each category.
