San Antonio - The Trinity swimming and diving
teams finished as runners-up at the UIW Invitational Saturday, at
the two-day meet at Barshop Natatorium.
The host University of the Incarnate Word women won the event
with 1,121.5 points, and Trinity was second with 1,010.5.
UT-Permian Basin, Southwestern and McMurry also accrued points in
both the women's and men's competition.
UIW's men amassed 1,446.5 points, and Trinity had 663.5
The diving portion of the meet was held at Trinity's Hixon
Natatorium.
Trinity's Haley Emerick captured the women's 1-meter board
(515.45), and Lindsay Martin was runner-up (504.80). The result of
the 3-meter event was reversed, as Martin placed first (555.15),
and Emerick was second (542.00).
The Tigers have five female divers under consideration for the
NCAA Division III Diving Championships.
It is the first time in Trinity history five female divers have
recorded NCAA Division III consideration scores. It is also
believed to be the first-ever time a Division III team has produced
five NCAA female diving qualifiers.
On the 1-meter board, Martin, Emerick, Ruth Hahn, Lynne
Bettinger, and Kristin Nordstrom are on the NCAA list.
Emerick, Bettinger, Martin, and Hahn) made the 3-meter NCAA
cut.
Diving coach Stan Randall will submit the scores, and subsequent
diving performances, to the NCAA selection committee. The NCAA
Swimming and Diving Championships are slated for March 17-20 at
Minneapolis.
In Saturday's men's 3-meter diving, Tiger Andrew Snead placed
second (460.50). He was third on the 1-meter board (412.30).
The Trinity Diving Invitational will be held Saturday, Feb. 6,
and Sunday, Feb. 7, at Hixon Natatorium.
Both the Tiger swimmers and divers will compete starting Feb. 17
at the SCAC Championships in Louisville, Ky.
