Terris Tiller will present “The Olympic Movement and the
Modern World” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, in the Coates
University Center Fiesta Room.
The lecture is free and open to the public. The Coates Fiesta
Room is located west of the Coates Center, on the Trinity campus.
Persons attending the event may park in Alamo Stadium.
Tiller, a 2000 graduate of Trinity, is the multi-media
coordinator for the U.S. Olympic Committee in Colorado
Springs. He is also the assistant fencing coach for the Front Range
Fencing Club.
His address will cover issues that are quickly gaining notoriety
among those involved in the Olympic Games. Tiller will speak on
topics which include the athlete pipeline and youth sport
development, and how the U.S. compares to other nations with
respect to support from national organizing bodies. He will also
discuss the impact of consumerism on the games, and how athletes
may qualify for the Olympics.
Tiller has competed in modern pentathlon, and was a three-time
world team member. He also was the 2004 national champion.
He has worked for USOC at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and
the 2010 Vancouver Winter Paralympic Games.
While competing for the Trinity Tigers, Tiller was a four-year
letter winner in cross country and track and field. He earned
All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Track and Field honors
seven times, and captured four conference championships..
