LA CROSSE, Wisc. – Annabelle Lanik (Sugar Land, Texas / St. John's) earned her third straight podium finish in the women's long jump at the NCAA DIII Outdoor National Championships on Thursday.
Lanik jumped out to an early lead after her first jump of 5.93m. While she was overtaken by two athletes on the second jump, she held on to eventually take third place. The athlete in fourth place also jumped 5.93, but Lanik's jumps of 5.93 again and 5.92 ensured that she came ahead in the tiebreaker.
Seeing triple, this is Lanik's third straight nationals and her third straight third place finish. She is also just the third Tiger woman to earn three or more All-American finishes, joining Christyn Schumann and
Emily Daum. In just her sophomore year she, Schumann and
Todd Wildman (on the men's side) stand alone as the only Tigers with multiple top-three finishes at nationals.
Looking Ahead
Lanik will return for the women's 4x100-meter prelims tomorrow, where she will be joined on the oval by
Shifa Daredia (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson),
Nia Scott (Dickinson, Texas / Dickinson) and
Brightly Thoning (Homer, Alaska / Homer). The gun will go off at 2:00 pm CST.
