San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers swimming and
diving teams beat Texas-Permian Basin, and fell to the University
of the Incarnate Word, in dual meets Saturday at UIW's Barshop
Natatorium.
Trinity's combined squads beat UTPB 273-255, and lost 379-172 to
the host Cardinals. The Tiger women beat UTPB 153-109, and lost
179-96 to UIW. Trinity's men's team was a 146-120 winner over UTPB,
and Incarnate Word beat the Tigers 200-76.
The Tiger women captured the top three spots in 3-meter and
1-meter diving. NCAA national champion Hayley Emerick was the
winner (285.85) on the 3-meter board, Ruth Hahn placed second
(258.20), and Kathryn Sheldon was third (222.75). Sheldon won the
1-meter competition (246.15), Emerick was the runner-up (244.55),
and Hahn finished third (237.85).
Andrew Snead placed second in the men's 1-meter diving event
(185.90), and on the 3-meter board (200.95).
Trinity swimmers did not win an event against the Division II
UIW and UTPB teams, but had some excellent runner-up finishes.
The Tiger women's team finished second in four events: 200-yard
medley relay (Kristen Zinser, Sara Griffis, Leslie Butts, Rachel
Berude), 1:57.26; Melanie Gustafson, 200-yard butterfly (2:13.50);
Morgan Briggs, 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.33); and Meghan Varner,
100-yard butterfly (1:02.18).
Lucas Belury was runner-up in the men's 500-yard freestyle
(4:50.10) for the Tiger men.
Trinity will host McMurry in a dual meet Saturday. Nov. 13, in
Hixon Natatorium, at a time to be announced.
