Louisville, Ky. - Trinity University Tigers
junior women's diver Hayley Emerick of Portland, Texas
(Gregory-Portland), made Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
history Saturday at the SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships.
Emerick became the SCAC's first female diver to win three
consecutive championships on each of the competition boards.
She won the 1-meter event Saturday, with a score of 469.45, at
the University of Louisville's Ralph Wright Natatorium. Last
Thursday, Emerick captured the 3-meter board, registering 479.45.
Jill Greshowak of Hendrix won the 1-meter three times (2003-2005),
and the 3-meter twice (2004 and 2005).
The Tigers took seven of eight top spots Saturday, including a
second-place finish (451.75) by senior Lindsay Martin of Longview,
Texas (Pine Tree). First-year diver Ruth Hahn of Knoxville, Tenn.
(Bearden), was fourth (384.85), and sophomore Lynne Bettinger of
Albuquerque, N.M. (La Cueva), placed fifth (377.80). First-year
Madison Kahler of Coral Springs, Fla. (Westminster), was sixth
(331.40), and senior Amy Oliver of Houston (Lamar) finished seventh
(323.25). Sophomore Kristin Nordstrom of The Woodlands, Texas
(The Woodlands), was eighth (299.30).
Earlier in the week, Trinity divers swept the Nos. 1-6 slots on
the 3-meter board, with Emerick, Martin, Bettinger, Hahn, Kahler
and Oliver, respectively. Nordstrom was an eighth-place
finisher.
Emerick, Martin, Bettinger, Hahn, Kahler, and Nordstrom had
previously earned NCAA Division III consideration scores.
Sophomore Kevin Martin of Corpus Christi, Texas (Ray), won the
men's 1-meter diving last Wednesday (448.35), and placed second in
the 3-meter Friday (384.20). Martin and junior Andrew Snead
of Portland (Gregory-Portland) also have NCAA consideration scores.
The SCAC swimming finals conclude tonight.
