Box Score Houston, TX - The Tiger track team had a solid
showing against mostly Division I and Division II competition at
the Victor Lopez Classic meet hosted by Rice University. The long
distance events took place Friday night while the other sprint and
field events took place Saturday.
Trinity's distance crew showed that they were still a
dominating force, even after having just competed at NCAA Division
III Indoor Championships just two weeks prior. Leading the way was
senior Chass Armstrong in the 1500m run. He took second place with
a time of 3:55.54. Teammate Zach Brush was close behind with a time
of 3:57.30, a new personal best for the now two-time All-American.
Not to be outdone, senior Bryant Wright made his first track
5,000m appearance a good one cutting a whopping 28 seconds off of
the school record previously held by Cliff Ruehl. His time of
14:53.36 was good for fourth place in the highly competitive race.
Wright was only seconds shy of the NCAA provisional mark of
14:48.00.
On the women's side Junior Caitlin Masse followed up
her sixth place finish at the indoor championships with a
provisional mark in the 5,000m race. Her time of 17:32.77 was good
for eleventh place at the meet and now seeds her third in the
nation.
The Tigers will compete at home this coming
Friday, April 2nd, at the Tiger Relays.
