San Antonio-Junior Zach Brash (Edmond, OK) and
Junior Caitlin Masse (Katy, TX) have been named Track
Athletes-of-the-Week by the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference.
Brush competed at the Victor Lopez Classic, hosted by Rice
University. His first event of the two-day meet was the 1500m
race on Friday night. He ran a personal best time of 3:57.30
beating a time he set during his freshman year. He placed third
behind teammate Chass Armstrong and unattached runner Michael Cook
in the event.
Brush also competed in the 800m race on Saturday, finishing
ninth overall. He currently holds the top spot on the SCAC
performance list in the 800m, and is three seconds ahead of
DePauw's Tyler Giesting. Brush is also second on the
list in the 1500m behind Chass Armstrong. Brush recently
earned his second All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Track and
Field Championships by running the 800m leg of the men's
Distance Medley Relay team. With his help, the Tiger men finished
second nationally – the team's best finish in school
history.
Masse competed in the 5000m race at the Victor Lopez Classic
Friday night. She finished tenth overall in a field of primarily
Division I athletes, with an NCAA Division III provisional
qualifying time of 17:32.77. This time currently places her fifth
in the nation. She also holds the second-place spot on the SCAC
performance list to DePauw's Lauren Reich. Masse just
completed her first indoor season two weeks prior, finishing sixth
in the nation with a new school record and personal best of
17:06.79 in the 5000m.
