Box Score San Antonio, TX - The Tiger track team hosted
its first outdoor meet of the 2010 season today, competing against
twelve mostly Division I and Division II schools.
Highlighting the meet was sophomore Justin Campbell of Victoria,
Texas. Not only did he record his second consecutive victory in the
men's discus throw against tough competition, he also
threw a solid NCAA Division III
provisional qualifying throw of 49.09 meters.
The men's 4x100m relay team, consisting of Brennon Peters, Jesse
Wright, Nigel Robinson, and Tyson Cannon, captured their first
victory of the season with a time of 43.19. Other standout
perfomances on the men's side were Nigel Robinson placing second in
the 100m dash with a time of 11.22, as well as finishing third in
the 200m (22.75), and Riley Walker running the 110m Hurdles in
a time of 16.14, good for a third place finish.
On the women's side two athletes stood out for the Lady Tigers
in the field events. Senior Elizabeth Tweedy won the triple
jump with a mark of 11.00m, and first-year Elana
Edwards notched her first collegiate win in the high
jump with a jump of 1.63m (5'04"). Elizabeth Tweedy also
took third in the high jump in 1.58m (5'02").
Freshman Emily Shiraki continued to have success in the pole
vault, jumping 3.05m (10'), an improvement from her jump
last week at the Incarnate Word Invitational.
The men finished fourth overall out of twelve teams, while the
women led the way with a third place finish out of nine teams.
The Tigers will continue their outdoor season in three
weeks on March 26th at the Rice Bayou Classic meet in
Houston Texas.
A select group of national qualifiers will also be
competing at the NCAA Indoor National Championships next weekend in
Greencastle, Indiana, hosted by fellow SCAC member Depauw
University.
