San Antonio – Trinity University Tigers
first-year player Erick DelaFuente has been named the
Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Region Rookie Player of the
Year.
DelaFuente, from El Paso, Texas (Coronado), chalked up a 14-10
record in singles this season, primarily at No. 3 singles. He also

Last fall, DelaFuente won the ITA Southwest Region Singles
Championship with a default victory over Frey, earning All-America
honors. DelaFuente qualified for the ITA National Small College
Championships.
Frey was also named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference All-Tournament Team (No. 2 doubles), and to the SCAC
All-Sportsmanship Team. He was ranked No. 21 in West Region
singles, and 12th in doubles, with Frey.
The Tigers, led by first-year head coach Russell McMindes, won
the SCAC Championship and the West Region Tournament. Trinity beat
Carleton and Kenyon in the regional, and lost to
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the NCAA quarterfinals. The Tigers,
ranked 13th nationally, completed the season with an
18-10 record.
