Trinity Swimmers and Divers Excel in Meet With Southwestern

Georgetown, Texas -- The Trinity Tigers men's and women's swimming and diving teams were victorious over Southwestern Saturday in dual meets.
 
Trinity's men beat the Pirates 220-46, and the Tiger women won 180-98.
 
Tiger women's sophomore swimmer Jennifer Ince (San Antonio/Churchill) recorded two personal lifetime bests in her victories: the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.85) and the 200 individual medley (2:19.76).
 
First-year swimmer Meghan Varner (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) was a triple individual winner: the 200 freestyle (2:02.84), the 200 butterfly (2:15.20), and the 500 freestyle (5:26.46). Varner also swam with the first-place 400 freestyle relay team (3:44.58).
 
Morgan Briggs (Waterford, Wis./Waterford), a first-year student-athlete, captured two events: the 100 breaststroke (1:12.87) and the 200 breaststroke (2:29.04). Briggs was also a member of the 200 medley relay team (1:55.80).
 
Three Tiger men were double winners of individuals events.
 
Junior Zach Dielmann (Austin, Texas/Westwood)  won the 100 backstroke (56.53 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (55.76). Sophomore Sean Fronczak (Sunnyvale, Calif./St. Francis) took the 200 backstroke (2:00.28) and the 100 breaststroke (1:07.71). First-year Lucas Belury (Austin, Texas/Westlake) won the 200 butterfly (2:04.43) and the 200 breaststroke (2:21.34).
 
Fronczak and Dielmann swam with the winning 200 medley relay team (1:41.93), while Dielmann was also part of the 400 freestyle relay (3:21.93).
 
Trinity divers turned in a number of NCAA Division III consideration scores at Hixon Natatorium.
 
Defending NCAA women's 3-meter champion, senior Hayley Emerick (Portland, Texas/Gregory-Portland), won Saturday's 3-meter (621.45) and 1-meter boards (560.95).
 
Also receiving NCAA scores on the 3-meter board were sophomore Ruth Hahn (Knoxville, Tenn./Bearden), 574.65; junior Lynne Bettinger (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva), 563.65; and sophomore Madison Kahler (Coral Springs, Fla./Westminster Academy), 464.10.
 
In addition to Emerick, five other divers earned NCAA consideration on the 1-meter event: Bettinger, 529.55; Hahn, 524.10; first-year Gabriella Caglieris (Hightstown, N.J./Peddie School), 453.45; Kahler, 436.95; and junior Kristin Nordstrom (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands), 416.70.
 
Junior Kevin Martin (Corpus Christi, Texas/Ray) won the men's 1-meter (586.15) and 3-meter (575.40 competitions).
 
NCAA consideration on the 1-meter board was also produced by senior Andrew Snead (Portland, Texas/Gregory Portland), 502.80; and senior Matt Hawley (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood), 426.10.
 
Snead placed second on the 3-meter (523.65), and Hawley was third (523.65).
 
Up next for the Tigers is the UIW Cardinal Invitational Jan. 28-29.
