San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers swimming and
diving teams were victorious over Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference rival Colorado College in dual meets Saturday at Hixon
Natatorium.
Trinity's women defeated the Colorado Tigers 171.5 to 62.5, and
the men won the meet 135-104.
Diving was the first order of business of the day. Trinity's
women took the first three slots of the 1-meter board, which was
captured by Katie Sheldon (224.70). Lynne Bettinger (222.60) was
the runner-up, and Ruth Hahn (218.30) placed third. Trinity's Kevin
Martin won the
men's 1-meter event, with a score of 288.20. Austin Howlett of
Colorado College (236.65) finished second, and the Tigers Richard
Hawley (203.20) was third.
Hahn, an All-American chalked up a score of 246.40 on the
3-meter board. Sheldon was runner-up, at 228.25, and Colorado
College's Nicole Fazio was third (219.10). Martin was a
double-winner, as he took first place in the men's 3-meter event
(263.85). Howlett registered 230.61, and Trinity's Hawley amassed a
score of 183.35.
In the women's swimming competition, Melanie Gustafson won two
individual events, the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:00.32) and the
500-yard freestyle (5:25.45). Lydia Jones was the winner of the
100-yard freestyle (55.50) and the 200-yard freestyle
(1:59.01).
Also capturing individual wins were Rachel Berude (50
freestyle), Mary Price (100 butterfly), Lisa Tucci (200 individual
medley), Rachel Hure (100 backstroke), and Kelly Holton (100
breaststroke).
Alex Miranda won the men's 500-yard freestyle (4:53.65) and the
200-yard individual medley (2:01.75). Lucas Belury took the
1,000-yard freestyle (10:15.23), and Kevin Thomas won the 50-yard
freestyle (22.10). The 100-yard freestyle race went to Aaron Shaver
(49.57).
