Claremont, Calif. - The No. 2 Amherst Lord
Jeffs beat the the ninth-ranked Trinity men 7-2 Tuesday, as the
Tigers wrapped up their California trip at
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Trinity (7-8) won No. 2 doubles, as Erick DelaFuente and Max Frey
edged Wes Waterman and Moritz Koenig 9-8 (4). DelaFuente recorded
the Tigers' other point by defeating Koenig 6-1, 7-6 at No. 3
singles.
Amherst, the 2010 NCAA Division III team finalist, won No. 1
doubles as Luis Rattenhuber and Austin Chafetz beat Bobby
Cocanougher and Cory Kowal 8-1. Sean Doerfler and Justin Reindel
took No. 3 doubles with an 8-4 win over Ben Carroll and Don
Murray
.
Rattenhuber beat Frey 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles; and Chafetz was a
7-6, 6-1 winner over Coacanougher in the No. 2 match. Waterman beat
Kowal 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles; and Reindel won the No. 5 slot,
beating Greg Haugen 6-4, 6-1.
No. 6 singles was a tightly played match as Doerfler beat Carroll
6-2, 3-6, 10-6 (tiebreak instead of third set).
Trinity will host third-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 3 p.m.
Friday, March 25, at Delavan Tennis Stadium.
