San Antonio - The 11th-ranked Trinity Tigers
men started off strong in doubles, but fell 7-2 to the No. 4
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags Friday at Varsity Tennis Stadium.
Trinity (7-9) won two of the three doubles matches. Bobby
Cocanougher and Cory Kowal took No. 1 doubles. beating Zhenya
Pereversin and Ronald Wu 8-6. Erick DelaFuente and Max Frey
captured No. 2 doubles, defeating Alex Lane and Brandon Wei 8-3.
Claremont tightened the score by winning No. 3 doubles, as Robbie
Erani and Russell Brockett beat Ben Carroll and Don Murray 8-4.
The Stags then swept all six singles matches to claim the
dual-match win.
Kowal gave it a run at No. 4 singles, but fell 0-6, 6-1, 6-4 to
Wu.
Lane beat Frey 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles; and Alex Johnson won the
No. 2 match, beating Cocanougher 6-4, 6-4. Brockett was a 6-2, 6-3
winner over DelaFuente at No. 3 singles.
Mac Cahill defeated Greg Haugen 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles; and
Pereversin beat Carroll 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 6 slot.
The Tigers will host fifth-ranked Washington (Mo.) at 2 p.m.
Saturday at Varsity Tennis Stadium.
