Members of the Trinity Tigers men's and women's tennis teams had excellent showings Friday and Saturday at a meet with the University of the Incarnate Word and St. Mary's, at UIW's Clarence Mabry Tennis Center.

In men's singles, Tiger senior Max Frey, who was an NCAA Division III semifinalist last May, went undefeated. Frey beat UIW's David Ballenger 6-0, 6-3; and Leury Arias 6-1, 6-3.

First-year Tiger Charlie Curtis was a 6-2, 4-1 (retired) winner over the Cardinals Aiden DeLeon; and  Luke Trautman 6-3, 7-5. Jordan Mayer, also a new member of the Trinity team, defeated UIW's Kevin Rodriguez 6-3, 6-0; and Marcin Marczewski of St. mary's 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 (tiebreak instead of third set). Sophomore Arvind Fernando beat Marczewski 3-6, 6-4, 10-5; and St. Mary's Andrej Klipa  7-5, 7-5.

The women's singles event had Trinity first-year player Mackenzie Knoop beating UIW's Andi Botha 6-4, 6-2; and Ivanna Katavic 6-2, 6-1. Senior Katie Griffith defeated Maggie Doney of Incarnate Word 6-2, 6-2; and Casey Bulls 6-3, 6-2.

Trinity's women will compete Sept. 23-25 at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championships at Tyler, Texas.

The Tiger men will host the ITA RegionalsSept. 30-Oct. 2, at McFarlin Tennis Center and the Trinity campus.
