Skinner Upsets Top Seed in Opening Round of ITA Singles Championships

Mobile, Alabama - Trinity men's tennis player Aaron Skinner earned a 7-5, 6-4 win over the top singles seed at the ITA Small College National Championships on Thursday afternoon, advancing to Friday's Semifinals.

Skinner defeated Washington (MO) University's Adam Putterman today, after winning yesterday's play-in match to reach the main draw.  He won 6-3, 6-4 yesterday, qualifying for the tournament by winning the ITA Southwest Regional Championship.

In the Semifinal, Skinner will face Adam Hersh from Johns Hopkins University on Friday at 10:30 a.m.  He is shooting for Trinity's first ITA Singles title since 1997.

Head Coach Russell McMindes led the Tigers in winning this year's singles and doubles regional titles.  Skinner and teammate Jordan Mayer lost their play-in match in yesterday's action.
