San Antonio - Trinity's women's soccer
team had 11 players earn 2012 All-Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference honors, led by Offensive and Defensive Players of the
Year Emily Jorgens and Katie Garrett.
The Tiger women's soccer team won its fourth consecutive SCAC
Championship by winning the SCAC Tournament for the second straight
year. Trinity made the NCAA Playoffs for the 18th time in
school history, but was eliminated 7-6 on penalty kicks against
Hardin-Simmons University in the Second Round.
Jorgens became Trinity's fourth straight player to win the
Offensive Player of the Year award, after leading the conference in
assists, assists/game, and game-winning goals. She was also
second in the league in points and shots, and sixth in goals.
Jorgens scored 18 assists this season, and was just two away
from breaking the school's single season record.
Garrett is one of just three goalkeepers in SCAC history to earn
Player of the Year honors, leading the SCAC in goals against
average and save percentage. She helped lead the Tigers to 13
shutouts this season, and posted a career-best 21 saves in a road
draw against Wheaton (IL) College during the year.
Joining Jorgens and Garrett on the All-SCAC First Team were six
Trinity Tiger players. Defenders Kirby Peddicord and Katy
Lipscomb, forwards Shelby Guenthardt and Stephanie Segovia, and
midfielders Kelsey Falcone and Lindsay Euers all earned a spot on
the team.
Peddicord and Segovia were both on the First Team last season as
well, and Segovia was the SCAC Newcomer of the Year. Falcone
and Jorgens were on the Second Team in 2011, while Garrett was a
Second Team selection in 2009. Euers is a four-time All-SCAC
selection, who earned First Team honors in 2009 and 2011.
Senior Lauren Henderson, junior Jennifer White, and first-year
Carly Kocel were all named to Second Team All-SCAC. White was
a Third Team All-SCAC selection last season.
Head Coach Lance Key finished his ninth season with the Tigers
in 2012, having led the team to four straight SCAC titles and four
straight NCAA Playoff appearances. Overall, Coach Key has
made eight postseason appearances and won seven conference
titles.
