San Antonio - Trinity's Greg Haugen and
Mackenzie Knoop have been chosen as the Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the
Week.
The Tiger men's tennis team was 2-1 under the leadership of
Haugen, while Knoop led the Trinity women to a 3-1 record.
Both teams were playing in California, as part of their annual
Spring Break road trip.
Knoop was 4-0 in singles and doubles during last week's action,
playing at the No. 1 position in both. She faced four
nationally-ranked teams including #22 Vassar, #29 Redlands, #9
Pomona-Pitzer, and #14 Washington (MO) University.
Haugen paced Trinity's men with a 2-1 record in both singles and
doubles, playing #2 doubles and #3 singles in each match. His
singles victory against Redlands clinched a narrow 5-4
win by the Tigers.
Knoop finished the week with an 8-1 overall record in singles,
and an 8-2 mark in doubles play. Her only losses this season
have come against opponents outside of Division III. Haugen
stands 5-6 in singles, tying for second on the team in singles
victories this season. He is also sporting a 9-3 record in
doubles.
Trinity will play at Tyler Junior College and the University of
Texas-Tyler on March 24-25. Each team will also play a
neutral match in Tyler, Texas. The women face Whitman College
on the 24th, while the men's team will match up against Linfield
College.
