Tyler, Texas - The Tiger men's tennis team
split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon, beating Linfield
9-0, but falling 8-1 against Tyler Junior College.
Trinity now stands 10-6 this season, but the Tigers have won
four of their last six matches. The Tigers are 7-3 against
Division III opponents this season.
Max Frey and Erick DelaFuente took an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles
against Linfield, and the Tigers opened the match with three
victories. Greg Haugen and Jordan Mayer also won 8-2 at No. 2
doubles, while Charlie Curtis and Aaron Skinner took an 8-1 win at
No. 3 doubles.
Frey, Haugen, Mayer, and Curtis all scored two points in the
match, also securing wins in singles. Arvind Fernando and
Julio Benavides both earned 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 5 and No. 6
singles.
In the second match of the day, Curtis and Skinner earned a 9-8
victory at No. 3 doubles for Trinity's only victory against the
junior college powerhouse. Fernando suffered the closest
singles defeat with a 3-6, 6-3, 4-6 loss at the fifth position.
Trinity will finish off its weekend with a match against the
University of Texas-Tyler at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
