Thousand Oaks, California - Trinity's men's
tennis team opened its Spring Break road trip with a 5-4 loss at
Cal Lutheran University on Thursday evening.
The Tigers (6-4) led the match 4-3 with No. 3 and No. 5 singles
remaining, but Cal Lutheran was able to win the final two singles
points to steal the overall victory.
Trinity won just one of three doubles points to fall behind 2-1
early in the match. Greg Haugen and Jordan Mayer scored an
8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles.
After doubles, the Tigers took control by winning three of the
next four points. Mayer was the only player to score two
points for Trinity, winning 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Max
Frey scored a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, while Charlie
Curtis won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
Erick DelaFuente lost 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, but the Tigers
still held a narrow lead heading into the final matches.
Haugen lost 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 to tie the match, and Ben Carroll was
beaten 6-3, 6-4 for the final point.
Trinity continues its trip with a match at the University of
Redlands at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow. The Tigers will not return
home until the end of the month.
