San Antonio - Trinity sophomore Maddie Murphy was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her performance at the David Noble Relays.

Murphy improved her personal record in the 5,000 meter race in San Angelo, Texas, placing her in second place in the SCAC in the event.  She finished in 18:06.30 last weekend, which was more than 12 seconds faster than her previous best time. 

This past fall, Murphy qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships for the second straight season.  She finished sixth at the 2011 NCAA South/Southeast Regional Meet to qualify for nationals.  At the national meet, Murphy finished 82nd with a time of 22:12.05. 

Murphy won the SCAC Championships last fall, earning SCAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year honors.

Trinity's track & field team will host the Trinity Alumni Classic this weekend, then will prepare for the SCAC Championships at the end of the month.  The SCAC Meet is hosted by Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama.
