San Antonio - The second-ranked Trinity
Tigers women's soccer team will be shooting for its fifth
straight title starting Saturday at the Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Championship at Seguin, Texas.
Undefeated Trinity (19-0-1, 12-0-0 SCAC) has a first-round bye
at the event, hosted by Texas Lutheran University. The Tigers will
play in Saturday's semifinals at 1:00 p.m. against the winner
of No. 4 Austin College and fifth-seeded University of Dallas, who
meet in Friday's quarterfinals. No. 3 Texas Lutheran and
sixth-seeded Centenary play on Friday, with the winner advancing to
Saturday's semifinals at 3:30 p.m. against No. 2
Southwestern.
The championship match is slated for 1:00 p.m. Sunday, with the
winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III
Playoffs.
Trinity is led by 10th-year Head Coach Lance Key, who has guided
the Tigers to seven SCAC Championships over the past nine seasons.
The championship run includes four conference titles in the last
four years, including a 1-0 win over Dallas in the 2012 tournament
final.
Overall, the Tigers have captured 17 SCAC Championship since
1992.
The 2013 edition of Tiger women's soccer has fired in 102
goals (5.10 per game) this season.
Junior All-America midfielder Emily Jorgens has posted a
team-best 56 points during this campaign. Jorgens, the 2012 SCAC
Offensive Player of the Year, leads the Tigers in goals (17, with
seven game-winners) and assists (22). She is the Tigers all-time
single-season assists leader, and is just one point away from tying
the record of 57 points (set by Tara Dillon in 1991).
Kelsey Falcone, a junior midfielder, has chalked up 38 points,
with 14 goals (two game-winners) and 10 assists. Senior midfielder
Michelle Lanier has accrued 34 points, with 11 goals (two
game-winners) and 12 assists.
Senior forward Shelby Guenthardt has 33 points, with 14 goals
(three game-winners) and five assists. Guenthardt, who has produced
49 career goals, is in fourth place on Trinity's all-time
scoring list, and needs two goals to move into a tie for third.
Junior goalkeeper Devan Osegueda has allowed only four goals
this season, for a 0.36 goals-against average. Senior defender
Jennifer White leads a stingy defense which has yielded six goals
over 20 games, for 0.30 per matchup, and has recorded 14 shutouts.
White has contributed to the offensive side of the game with two
goals and seven assists (11 points).
