Box Score San Antonio - Four members of
the Trinity Tigers men's soccer team have been named to the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Scholar South
Region Team.
Defender Ben Anderson, midfielder Darren McAfee,
and defender Simon Uribe made the All-Scholar Region First Team,
while defender Jeff Hayes was a Second Team honoree.
Last month, Anderson was elected to the Capital
One Academic All-America Second Team. Anderson majors in political
science and has a grade point average of 3.97. He played in 20
games this season, while starting in 11. Anderson was a key member
of the tight Trinity defense which yielded only 10 goals, and
recorded 17 shutouts. He also contributed one assist on the
offensive side.
McAfee is an engineering science major with a
3.35 GPA. He posted five goals and two assists, and was named to
the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team, as well
as the NSCAA All-Region First Team. McAfee added a goal and assist
during the Tigers NCAA postseason play.
Uribe is a double-major in economics and finance
with a 3.93 GPA. He started 12 of 21 games this season, and chalked
up five goals and one assist. Uribe scored the game-winning goal in
the SCAC Championship game, as the Tigers beat Southwestern
University to claim a 16th conference title.
Hayes majors in pre-medicine neuroscience, and
carries a 3.36 GPA. He anchored a smothering defense which was
ranked No. 1 in the nation in goals-against average (.39). Hayes
started 13 of 19 games, and scored five goals, while dishing out
six assists.
The Tigers (21-3-1), led by 23rd-year Head Coach Paul
McGinlay, advanced to their 12th straight NCAA Division III
Tournament (17th of the last 18) after capturing the conference
title. Trinity advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the eighth
time, and was ranked fourth by D3soccer.com, and sixth by the
NSCAA.
