Kingsville, Texas Trinity University's
track & field teams held their own at the Catcus Cup hosted by
Texas A&M-Kingsville. The event, which featured mostly Division
II schools, saw several Tiger athletes bests personal records on
Saturday.
In field events, Sarah Pickett, Kelsey Oelze, Joey Kozak, and
Justin Campbell all had big days. Pickett set a personal record in
the women's high jump at just over five feet. Oelze set three
personal records in the women's shot put, 10.91 meters, discus
throw, 31.32 meters, and posted an overall third place finish with
a javelin throw of 37.22 meters. For the men, Kozak added an entire
foot to his personal record on the pole vault with a mark of 13'5".
Campebell's discus throw of 49.6 meters was good for fourth overall
at the meet and for fourth in the country for Division III
throwers.
For the spinters, Salome Wilfred was just a hundredth of a
second off her best mark in the 100 meter dash, clocking a 12.83.
Bailey Drury established a new personal mark in the women's 400
meter dash, just beating a minute with a 59.91 time.
In distance running, Vanessa Moreno took third on the women's
800 meter run, a new personal record 2:19.17, and Mariana Sigala
was right behind in sixth place with a 2:21.83.
Michelle Oberndorf eclipsed her previous best in the 1500 meters
to finish sixth with a 5:00.66 run, while Jackie Newell took tenth
with a 5:06.60. Genevieve Primeau took home a third place finish in
the women's 5K with a 20:14.54.
For the men, Sal Perdomo (4:03.53) and Mark Greene (4:09.06)
placed fifth and seventh respectively in the 1500 meter
run.
