Box Score San Antonio - The Tiger men's and women's
track & field teams had four student-athletes earn Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors for their
performances at the Cactus Cup/Texas A&M-Kingsville meet.
Sophomore Darian Sommers was the SCAC Men's Track Athlete of the
Week, while junior Joey Kozak was the Field Athlete of the Week.
On the women's side, junior Kelsey Oelze was the Field
Athlete of the Week, and first-year Bailey Drury was the Track
Athlete of the Week. The quartet earned the honors competing
against mostly Division II student-athletes.
Sommers ran a new personal best with a time of 11.41 in the 100
meter dash - a time that currently leads the conference.
Kozak also had a new personal record in the pole vault with
his SCAC-leading height of 4.10 meters.
Oelze had three new records at the meet, highlighted by her
third-place finish with a throw of 37.22 meters in the javelin.
She also set new personal highs in the shot put (10.91
meters) and the discus (31.32 meters). Drury raced home in
59.91 seconds in the 400 meter dash, which is the first sub-minute
time in the SCAC this season in this race.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 23, at the
University of Texas-Arlington Invitational. Trinity will host
the Tiger Relays on Friday, March 29.
