Box Score Arlington, Texas - Trinity's men's and
women's track & field teams had a strong showing at the Bobby
Lane Invitational on Saturday, hosted by the University of
Texas-Arlington.
The Tigers broke several personal bests in the meet, and also
scored marks that put several individuals in the top five in school
history in their respective events.
Jaclyn Newell highlighted several outstanding efforts with her
win in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase. Newell finished
in a time of 11:14.29, which is a new personal record and leads all
competitors in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference this
season. It is also the second-fastest time in school
history.
Sal Perdomo also took over the conference lead with his time of
9:29.79 in the men's steeple, narrowly missing out on breaking his
own Trinity record in the event. Perdomo was third in today's
event, racing against non-Division III opponents.
Vanessa Moreno finished seventh in the 1,500 meter run, and her
time of 4:45.54 is third in school history. Michelle
Oberndorf earned the fifth-best time in Tiger track & field
history in the 5,000 meters, racing to the finish in 17:44.48 for
third place in the event.
In the men's 5,000 meter run, Taylor Piske set a new personal
record with his time of 15:40.20. Chris Soto also broke his
personal best in the 1,500 with a time of 4:10.30.
The men's 800 meter dash saw Tiger Rudy Esparza set a new
personal best with his time of 1:59.70, while Ian Plantz took over
the SCAC lead with his 1:58.07 in the same event.
Cody Wolfe and Jessie Dean are now the conference leaders in the
men's 200 meters and the women's 400 meter hurdles, respectively.
Wolfe raced to the finish in 22.93 in the 200, while Dean
finished sixth in the 400 hurdles with her time of 65.48.
In the field events, Kelsey Oelze and Justin Campbell
highlighted the Trinity effort by posting SCAC-leading marks.
Oelze threw 38.18 meters in the javelin for an eighth-place
finish at the meet, while Campbell tossed a 13.99 meter shot put to
also finish eighth.
Trinity will be be back in action this weekend in a couple of
different events. Select Tiger student-athletes will attempt
to qualify for the Texas Relays (hosted by the University of
Texas), but the team will also host the Tiger Relays on Friday,
March 29.
