Box Score San Antonio - The Tiger men's and women's
track & field teams have swept the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Athlete of the Week awards for the second consecutive
week.
Trinity had several outstanding performances at the University
of Texas-Arlington's Bobby Lane Invitational, led by men's
student-athletes Sal Perdomo and Justin Campbell, and women's
student-athletes Kelsey Oelze and Michelle Oberndorf.
Perdomo posted a time of 9:29.79 in the men's 3,000 meter
steeplechase, taking over the conference lead, and just falling
short of breaking his own school record in the event. He
finished third in the event, racing against non-Division III
opponents, and earning the SCAC Male Track Athlete of the Week
award. Campbell threw 13.99 meters in the shot put, also
taking over the SCAC lead in the event, and securing SCAC Male
Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Oelze was the SCAC Female Field Athlete of the Week for the
second straight week, throwing the javelin for a mark of 38.18
meters on Saturday. She is also now atop the leaderboard in
the event for the conference. Oberndorf earned SCAC Female
Track Athlete of the Week honors by finishing third in the 5,000
meter run, posting a time of 17:44.48 for the fifth-fastest mark in
Trinity history.
Trinity will host the Tiger Relays on Friday, March 29, and is
led by Head Coach Marcus Whitehead. Coach Whitehead is in his
first season at the helm of the Tiger squads, after previously
serving as an assistant coach at Trinity.
